Company Profile:

 Rivergum Designer Puppies started when breeders Peter and Margaret, after 35 years of breeding pure-bred dogs, decided to start breeding special companion pups. Rivergum is a small family business which has been operating online for 13 years. Puppies are available for sale all over Australia and to some overseas countries. Rivergum Designer Puppies will help you find then right puppy to suit your family before organising everything for the delivery and pick up of your new puppy.

Here at Rivergum Designer Puppies all of our pups are fully vaccinated, vet checked and wormed. We also microchip all our puppies before sale and register them with the relevant microchipping agency. Our Puppies come with detailed feeding and health instructions and we offer a full health guarantee for any genetic defects that may occur. We do not believe in desexing puppies at 8 weeks of age on recommendation from our vet. All our  puppies can be freighted via air to all capital cities at the time of delivery. We are able to provide you with very detailed information about each of our puppies as we spend everyday with them from the day they are born until they are ready for their new home. We work together with you to help you decide on the right nature, breed and puppy for you and your family.

A Message from the Breeders:

"We live in Southwest NSW at Barham on the Murray River, hence our kennel name "Rivergum". We have been farming in this region since 1970. We have been breeding dogs for the last forty years. 20 years ago, we decided to breed pedigree dogs but relinquished that plan due to the many faults that appeared through bloodlines being linebred and inbred. Also temperament didn't appear to be the main priority in selecting breeding parents. So, after many years of disappointment with the limitations of pedigree breeding, we decided that the pedigree scene wasn't for us. We selected the best of our breeding stock and 20 years ago we started breeding "Companions". No fancy names, no fancy pedigree, just good quality, well cared for puppies to suit any family at a reasonable price.

Despite this being our business we are very passionate about our dogs and puppies. All our puppies are born in air conditioned nuseries which have regulated heating and cooling for the extreme  temperatures of our climate here. All our adult dogs are housed at night after a day of regular exercise as per DPI and shire regulations for their safety, comfort and protection from the elements. All our dogs have a friend to sleep with at night for companionship.

Our puppies are weaned at 6-7 weeks purposely to help in the transition from our home to yours, as part of this process we are very active in socalising and stimulating the puppies and this is a much loved part of our day.  We enjoy playing with the puppies and much time is spent with all the puppies before they leave our home to join your family.

In recent times there has been alot of negative media coverage regarding puppy breeding, puppy farms and designer breeds. Unfortantely as a result we have found some people have formed opinions about us and our puppies without ever meeting us, seeing our puppies or property. Although we are a small family business we believe that designer dogs have a wonderful place in our family and  there are many postive aspects to breeding such dogs. We are very proud of our facilities here at Rivergum and feel so strongly about the care, treatment and home we provide our puppies and dogs that we encourage anyone to contact us to discuss this personally with us. Everyone has different views on what makes the best pet however we feel many of our designers can offer families the best of two breeds and we are passionate about providing well cared for, loved and happy puppies to the community.

Sadly we have recently found the need to implement a 24 hour security system on our property as there has been an increased number of puppy thefts and illegal trespassing  in our area. We have established security to protect our puppies and dogs from undue stress and distruption from unwanted intrusion during rest times and evenings. For a small family business we are very disheartened that such a need has arisen but in order to protect our puppies and parents feel it is neccessary.

Here at Rivergum our breeding practices are in accordance with the canine animal welfare code of practice and we have regular RSPCA and DPI inspections. We work closely with our vet who is consulted on all aspects of animal health and welfare. We always encourage responsible pet ownership and are very active in helping people make the correct choice of pet for their family. We aim to provide the best before and after care available to all our clients and ensure they are aware of the care and lifelong commitment it takes to own and puppy and to help them raise a happy and healthy dog.
